1 Scalar gravitational waves and Einstein frame

چکیده
The response of a gravitational wave detector to scalar waves is analysed in the framework of the debate on the choice of conformal frames for scalar-tensor theories. A correction to the geodesic equation arising in the Einstein conformal frame modifies the geodesic deviation equation. This modification is due to the non-metricity of the theory in the Einstein frame, yielding a longitudinal mode that is absent in the Jordan conformal frame. PACS: 04.30.-w, 04.30.Nk, 04.50.+h

Lensing by gravitational waves in scalar–tensor gravity: Einstein frame analysis
The amplification of a light beam due to intervening gravitational waves is studied. The previous Jordan frame result according to which the amplification is many orders of magnitude larger in scalar–tensor gravity than in general relativity does not hold in the Einstein conformal frame. Lensing by gravitational waves is discussed in relation to the ongoing and proposed VLBI observations aimed ...

Scalar–tensor theories of gravity can be formulated in the Jordan or in the Einstein frame, which are conformally related. The issue of which conformal frame is physical is a contentious one; we provide a straightforward example based on gravitational waves in order to clarify the issue. Published in Int. J. Theor. متن کاملSolvegeometry Gravitational Waves
In this letter we construct negatively curved Einstein spaces describing gravitational waves having a solvegeometry wave-front. Using the Einstein solvmanifolds constructed in a previous paper as a starting point, we show that there also exist solvegeometry gravitational waves. Some geometric aspects are discussed and examples of spacetimes having additional symmetries are given, for example, s...

In this paper we construct negatively curved Einstein spaces describing gravitational waves having a solvegeometry wave-front (i.e., the wave-fronts are solvable Lie groups equipped with a left-invariant metric). Using the Einstein solvmanifolds (i.e., solvable Lie groups considered as manifolds) constructed in a previous paper as a starting point, we show that there also exist solvegeometry gr...
متن کاملA Decision between Bayesian and Frequentist Upper Limit in Analyzing Continuous Gravitational Waves
Given the sensitivity of current ground-based Gravitational Wave (GW) detectors, any continuous-wave signal we can realistically expect will be at a level or below the background noise. Hence, any data analysis of detector data will need to rely on statistical techniques to separate the signal from the noise. While with the current sensitivity of our detectors we do not expect to detect any tru...
